Paula Marie Pinkard Kafer, an owner and officer of Pinkard Construction Co., passed away Saturday September 14 following a short battle with leukemia. As an important member of our management team for many years, Paula performed a wide variety of important functions for Pinkard, and was an invaluable resource to the entire organization.
None of these responsibilities, however, begins to describe how important she was to the success of Pinkard Construction Co. She was the "heart" of an organization that prides itself in caring about our clients and employees. She exemplified this ideal through her interactions with anyone she touched, using equal parts humor and sincerity.
Paula had an infectious laugh which could be heard from one end of the office to the other. You couldn't miss it, but it will be so missed.
Paula was also our unofficial company historian, having worked at the company since she was in junior high school taking bids and administrative tasks during the summers. She was always a touchstone to keep us mindful of our culture and legacy.
Most importantly, she was our company Mom. She will always be remembered for how she genuinely cared for each member of our company, their spouses and families. She remembered everyone’s children’s names and all about them.
This description just scratches the surface of this wonderful, thoughtful, kind and generous human. She was equally amazing as a mother, grandmother, friend, daughter, and sister. She will be so missed by all of us who knew her intimately or casually. Services for Paula will be held this Friday, September 20 at noon at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church at 20th and Simms in Lakewood. A reception from 1-4 pm at Lakewood Country Club at 10th and Pierce in Lakewood will follow.
To accommodate these events, and out of respect for Paula and the Pinkard Construction Co. family, the office will be closed Friday. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ( or a charity of your choice.
Please share this information with those who knew her. Thank you.
